pigmentation
• mice appear gray on this non-agouti black background
• extent varies from a few isolated black hairs to heavily mottled
• areas of wild-type, black, coat color, carry somatic revertant mutations to Oca2+
• coats of 1.8% of offspring of homozygous parents are gray/black mottled (J:5226)
• mottling indicates reversion to wild-type coat color which occurs 3-5 times more frequent than for other p alleles or recessive muations at other coat color loci (J:11138)
• revertant lines can be established from inter se matings of mottled mice or matings of homozygous pink-unstabe mice to mottled mice (J:11138)
• mice with mosaic coats have eye pigmentation ranging from pink-eyed to mosaic to black
• eye pigmentation is often bilaterally asymmetrical

vision/eye
• mice with mosaic coats have eye pigmentation ranging from pink-eyed to mosaic to black
• eye pigmentation is often bilaterally asymmetrical

• the initial reversion event is random resulting in a mouse mosaic for mutant gray and revertant wild-type black pigmentation; this mouse can be bred to produce offspring with an entirely wild-type, non-agouti black coat
• the initial reversion event is random resulting in a mouse mosaic for reduced eye pigmentation and revertant wild-type black pigmentation; this mouse can be bred to produce offspring with an entirely wild-type, black eyes
