Mutation details:
Arginine codon 607 (CGA) in exon 14 was changed to histidine (CAT) (p.R607H) and a loxP site flanked neomycin resistance gene cassette was inserted into intron 9. The neo cassette was removed through subsequent Cre-mediated recombination. The mutation, in transmembrane domain 6 of the encoded protein, is the equivalent of the human p.R589H mutation associated with distal renal tubular acidosis (dRTA) and in hetero- and homozygous mice leads to a similar phenotype.
