Mutation details: This transgene contains the coding exons of the chicken lysozyme gene downstream of the mouse metallothionein I (Mt1) promoter. Mice of this transgenic line constitutively express very little hen egg lysozyme, exhibiting very low concentrations in serum (>5 ng/ml). However, zinc induction of the promoter (by supplementing the drinking water with zinc sulfate (25mM) for >= 5 days) raises the serum HEL concentration to ~200 ng/ml.
