Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:2827

Linkage analysis was performed on 20 BXD (B=C57BL/6J; D=DBA/2J) recombinant inbred (RI) strains to identify QTL associated with brain weight. Parental strain C57BL/6J exhibits 37% greater brain weight than parental strain DBA/2J. Animals were phenotyped at 11-13 weeks of age and scored for 360 polymorphic markers.

Significant linkage to brain weight mapped to 15 cM on mouse Chromosome 7 near Nudt19 (formerly D7rp2). This locus is named Brwt1 (brain weight 1). C57BL/6J-derived alleles at Brwt1 confer increased brain weight.

Brwt2 (brain weight 2) mapped to 88 cM on mouse Chromosome 2 near Odc-rs2 and Psp. C57BL/6J-derived alleles at Brwt2 confer increased brain weight.

Significant linkage to brain-to-body weight ratio mapped to 16 cM on mouse Chromosome 11 near Hba. This locus is named Brwt3. C57BL/6J-derived alleles near Brwt3 confer increased brain-to-body weight ratio.

Brain-to-body weight ratio also mapped to 25 cM - 40 cM on mouse Chromosome 17 near D0Tu7 (formerly D17Tu7). This locus is named Brwt4. C57BL/6J-derived alleles at Brwt4 confer increased brain-to-body weigh ratio.
