Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:69352

A locus conferring resistance to herpes simplex virus infection, Rhs1, mapped to 48.1 cM - 62.1 cM on mouse Chromosome 6 using congenic strain BALB.B6.Cmv1s and a series of C57BL/6- and BALB/c-derived intra-NKC recombinant lines. Progenitor strain BALB/c is susceptible to infection with herpes simplex virus whereas progenitor strain C57BL/6 (B6) is resistant to infection. Congenic strain BALB.B6.Cmv1s carries C57BL/6-derived chromosome 6 DNA spanning 60.55 cM - 65 cM on a BALB/c genetic background, and retains the herpes simplex resistant phenotype of donor strain C57BL/6. Intra-NKC recombinant lines carrying subportions of C57BL/6-derived congenic region on a BALB/c background were used to localize Rhs1 to the proximal portion of the interval.
