Notes
This mutation arose in a stock descended from a Peru stock mouse with high frequency of non-pairing of the sex chromosomes, after introduction of the yellow allele (Ay). Sabled areas characterize mice that carry the umbrous-patterned allele. Some of these mice are almost black dorsally, while others show a variation with moulting. Belly and ears are never sabled. Older animals, and offspring of older mothers, tend to be darker (J:13891).
