Homozygous null mutants die within a few days of birth with severe hyperglycemia due to arrested differentiation of pancreatic beta cells. Mutant embryos exhibit retarded oligodendrocyte differentiation and a virtual loss of serotonergic neurons at the r2 level of the hindbrain.
