Caption Morphological brain anomalies in Wdfy3disc/Wdfy3disc (disc/disc) mutants. (a) Lateral views of whole-mount heterozygous and homozygous disc brains illustrate the morphological anomalies of the homozygous mutant. The yellow lines and asterisk indicate the enlargement of the most anterior aspect of cerebral cortex (Cx). Notice also the considerably smaller olfactory bulb (OB) in the homozygous mutant. (b) Parasagittal Nissl-stained sections of heterozygous and homozygous mutant show an enlargement of the frontopolar cortex, cortical thinning at anterior aspects, diminished olfactory bulb, and enlargement of the lateral ventricles (LV). Close-ups of anterior cortical segments on the right confirm cerebral thinning and lamination defects leading to a reduction of the ventricular/subventricular zones (VZ/SVZ) and loss of the subplate (SP). Cb, cerebellum; CC, corpus callosum; HC, hippocampus; MB, midbrain; MZ, marginal zone; St, striatum. Scale bars in B are 500 um and 50 um respectively.
