Caption Chronic inflammation in Ptpn6m1Btlr/Ptpn6m1Btlr (spin) mice. A-D: Hematoxylin and eosin stained tissue sections from 2-5 month old wild-type (C57BL/6J) (A,C) and Ptpn6m1Btlr/Ptpn6m1Btlr (spin) (B,D) mice. The feet of mutants show a thickened epidermis with microabscesses in the epidermal (B) and dermal (D) layers accompanied by a mononuclear cell infiltrate into the dermal layer. The cellularity of the bone marrow is increased in bone cavities adjacent to the foot lesions. Sections are shown magnified 100X. E-H: The salivary glands (F) and lungs (H) of mutant mice contain hematopoietic cell infiltrates. This pathology is not evident in any wild-type mice (E,G). Salivary gland and lung sections are magnified at 100X.
