Wild-type (WT (+/+)) and Cav1^tm1Mls/Cav1^tm1Mls (KO (-/-)) mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MFE) were grown to near-confluence on 60-mm dishes and prepared for transmission electron microscopy. All analyses were performed at x16,000 magnification (for ease of view, images shown are further magnified to x43,500). The plasma membranes of numerous cells were exhaustively scanned for caveolae, defined as uniform 50-100-nm flask shaped membrane invaginations. The scale bar is shown at the lower left corner (bar, 150 nm).
