As early as P4, Atf4^tm1Tow/Atf4^tm1Tow mice show fewer and smaller acinar cells in the exocrine pancreas (A, P4 wild type; B, P4 mutant, 400x). The arrows point to tubular structures. By three months of age, the majority of the exocrine pancreas is replaced by adipocytes (C, mutant).
