Caption Renal cysts and Pkd1 expression in embryonic and adult kidneys of Pkd1tm1Rsa/Pkd1+ mice demonstrated by using X-Gal staining. Renal cysts (cy) in heterozygous mice were lined with hyperplactic epithelial cells (a, arrowed) or cells with pyknotic apoptotic nuclei (b, x60).
