N normal phenotype
behavior/neurological
N
• mice do not exhibit anxiety-like behaviors in an elevated plus-maze, zero-maze or light/dark box test or depressive-like behavior in a forced swim test
• mice exhibit normal food intake, working memory in a Y-maze, learning/memory in a passive avoidance test, motor control, motor activity, pain sensitivity and social interaction
• in the resident-intruder test
• treatment with an H1R antagonist has no effect
• increased male on male aggression without an increase in testosterone
• however, treatment with an H2R antagonist decreased number of attacks
• in an open field and home cage
• prolonged immobile time during the dark period
• however, time spent in the center is normal
• increased wakefulness during ZT0-6 (inactive period) with increased average wake bout duration and decreased wakefulness during ZT12-18 (active period)
• increased EEG activity in the 3.0-5.5 Hz range during wakefulness
• however, the number of wake and sleep bouts and EEG activities during REM sleep are normal
• lower EEG theta activity during both the light and dark phase

homeostasis/metabolism
• 5-fold higher histamine levels in the cortex, diencephalon, brainstem and cerebellum compared with wild-type mice
• higher extracellular histamine levels in the hypothalamus, irrespective of light/dark cycles
• elevated histamine levels in the liver and kidney
• however, mice exhibit normal brain levels of dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin or related metabolites
