• decrease in the ratio of alveolar bone volume to total volume
• alveolar bone loss in the mandibular molar furcation and in the interdental region at 3 months of age that progresses with age
• disruption/detachment of the periodontal ligaments
• mice show little or no cementum with a loss of cementum in the mandibular 1st molar and incisor region of 3 month old mice
