digestive/alimentary system
• acini are replaced by primitive ductular structures harboring transitional cells, characterized by ductal morphology but containing zymogen granules
• tubular complexes resulting from dedifferentiation of acini into ductal structures are present in severely affected pancreatic lobules with increasing age
• pancreas exhibits adipose replacement of acini in the exocrine pancreas
• 21% of 14 month or older mutants exhibit eosinophilic foci of acinar cells, indicating focal hyperplasia
• pancreas shows ductular transformation
• increase in the proportion of proliferating acinar cells in the pancreas at 6 weeks and 8 months of age
• however, aberrant ductular epithelial cells in the pancreas do not show evidence of increased proliferative activity

endocrine/exocrine glands
• pancreas is lighter in color at 5 months of age
• pancreas shows neo-angiogenesis
• expansion of the extracellular matrix in the pancreas of 8 month old mice
• however, islets of Langerhans are normal
• acini are replaced by primitive ductular structures harboring transitional cells, characterized by ductal morphology but containing zymogen granules
• tubular complexes resulting from dedifferentiation of acini into ductal structures are present in severely affected pancreatic lobules with increasing age
• pancreas exhibits adipose replacement of acini in the exocrine pancreas
• 21% of 14 month or older mutants exhibit eosinophilic foci of acinar cells, indicating focal hyperplasia
• pancreas shows ductular transformation
• relative pancreatic weight is decreased at 8 months of age
• inter- and intralobular fibrosis develops by 5 months of age and increases progressively
• acino-ductal metaplasia is seen in some young mice and are frequently seen in older mice, often transforming entire lobules
• large numbers of apoptotic cells are seen in the pancreas of 6 week old mice
• increase in the proportion of proliferating acinar cells in the pancreas at 6 weeks and 8 months of age
• however, aberrant ductular epithelial cells in the pancreas do not show evidence of increased proliferative activity
• increase in macrophage infiltration in the pancreas

immune system
• increase in macrophage infiltration in the pancreas
