• mice exhibit an increased duration of immobility in tail suspension test under 12 hr light/12 hr dark; duration of immobility is intensified under 4 hr light/20 hr dark
• mice exhibit an increased duration of immobility in forced swim test under 4 hr light/20 hr dark, but not under 12 hr light/12 hr dark
• treatment with anti-depressant imipramine decreases duration of immobility
• mice ingest less sucrose solution than controls
