• the main olfactory epithelium and vomeronasal organ lack calcium-activated chloride currents unlike wild-type epithelium
• in fluid-phase electro-olfactogram response to an odorant is reduced compared to in wild-type mice
• however, mice exhibit normal air-phase electro-olfactograms and performance in olfactory behavioral tasks
