Sterility in Tdrd5tm1Sait/Tdrd5tm1Sait males

reproductive system
N
• female mice are fertile
• fewer round spermatids are observed compared to in wild-type mice
• pachytene spermatocytes exhibit underdevelopped inter-mitochondrial cements and chromatoid bodies compared with wild-type mice
• at stages XII and I-III seminiferous tubules
• as early as 4 weeks of age
• as early as 4 weeks of age
• no elongating spermatids are present in the seminiferous tubules unlike in wild-type mice
• mice exhibit occasional failure of meiotic prophase unlike in wild-type mice
• male mice are infertile
• however, round spermatids are capable of producing fertile offspring when injected into oocytes

• pachytene spermatocytes exhibit underdevelopped inter-mitochondrial cements and chromatoid bodies compared with wild-type mice
• expression of LINE retrotransposons is derepressed in male germ cells unlike in wild-type cells
• mice exhibit occasional failure of meiotic prophase unlike in wild-type mice
