• increase in the thickness of the interventricular septum in diastole at 12 months of age but not at 3 months of age
• slight but significant increase in heart weight to body weight ratio at 12 months of age but not at 3 months of age
• slight but significant increase in left ventricle weight to body weight ratio at 12 months of age but not at 3 months of age
• modest elevation in myocardial hydrogen peroxide production
• after 9 weeks of pressure overload both systolic and diastolic function of the left ventricle are better than those in wild-type controls
• after 9 weeks of pressure overload mice develop less cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis compared to wild-type controls
• after pressure overload capillary density is significantly higher in mutant hearts compared to wild-type controls
