• in contrast to wild-type mice which spent increased time in the old target quadrant, mice spent almost equal time in the four areas of the Morris water maze test
• mice swam further away from where the platform used to be than wild-type mice
• a significant decrease in alternation compared to their wild-type litter mates in a Y-maze

• in culture the number of branches, spines as well as total length of neurites and branches, is significantly decreased compared to wild-type
• The average number of synaptic junctions detected by electron microscopy is decreased compared to wild-type
• a marked reduction of LTP was observed in the CA1 region

• phosphatidic acid content is reduced to about 70% wild-type levels in the hippocampus
