immune system
N
(J:128435)
• in a model of IgE antigen-dependent passive cutaneous anaphylaxis, mice exhibit normal dye extravasation (a measure of edema) (J:197334)
• in DNFB sensitized mice the number of T-bet expressing cells in the draining lymph nodes is significantly reduced
• results indicate a defect in Tc1 cell differentiation in DFNB sensitized mice
• in DNFB sensitized mice the number of T-bet expressing cells in the draining lymph nodes is significantly reduced
• after DNFB challenge during the elicitation phase cervical lymph nodes show a decrease in the total cell number and in the numbers of IFNG producing cells in the CD8+ and CD4+ cell populations
• in sensitized mice ear swelling following application of 0.3% dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB) is significantly attenuated compared to wild-type controls
• cultured lymph node cells from sensitized mice show a decreased production of IFNG following dinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (DNBS) challenge
• however, when immunized with a high dose of DNFB (1% vs 0.5%) ear swelling is similar to wild-type controls
• cultured lymph node cells from sensitized mice show a decreased production of IFNG following dinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (DNBS) challenge
• the increase in adrenocorticotropic hormone induced by LPS in wild-type mice is absent in nulls at 1 h after treatment

behavior/neurological
N
• no differences are detected in anxiety related behavior in a light/dark box assay or an elevated plus maze assay
• males introduced to a younger conspecific male in a neutral cage display an increase in the frequency of aggressive encounters
• males treated with LPS display extensive aggression with little social contact, aggression is as frequent in LPS treated and saline treated mice
• decrease in the latency to onset of fighting and increase in the number of fights in an electric shock induced fighting assay
• however, no difference in sensitivity to electric shock is detected
• antagonists to either dopamine 1 or dopamine 2 receptors restore the latency to first fight and number and duration fights to wild-type levels in an electric shock induced fighting assay
• in a cliff avoidance test 7 of 7 mice jump off the transparent platform
• mice display behavioral disinhibition under stress in multiple assays
• display exaggerated response to stimuli throughout the dynamic range of audible sound frequencies
• in an open field the incidence of rearing is reduced and the incidence of spontaneous jumping is increased
• males spend less time sniffing a novel younger conspecific male when introduced in a neutral cage

homeostasis/metabolism
• the increase in adrenocorticotropic hormone induced by LPS in wild-type mice is absent in nulls at 1 h after treatment
• the early rise in temperature induced by exposure to 10 ug/kg is blunted
• treatment with 100 ug/kg LPS fails to increase the body temperature
• following treatment with 1 mg/kg the first phase of hypothermia is absent but the second phase is similar to wild-type controls
• a decrease in dopamine concentration and an increase in the concentration of dopamine metabolites is detected in the frontal cortex and striatum
• increase in extracellular dopamine in the dorsal striatum
• however, no abnormalities in dopamine reuptake, degradation or release are detected

hematopoietic system
• in DNFB sensitized mice the number of T-bet expressing cells in the draining lymph nodes is significantly reduced
• results indicate a defect in Tc1 cell differentiation in DFNB sensitized mice
