• following treatment with an shRNA Bsn lentivirus, neurons exhibit decreased synaptic vesicle clustering, number of vesicles in nerve terminals, overall density of vesicles per terminal area, overall vesicle numbers, the number of vesicles close to the active zone, and docked at the active zone compared to in wild-type cells
• following treatment with an shRNA Bsn lentivirus, neurons exhibit an increase in postsynaptic density compared with wild-type cells
• however, mice exhibit normal size of presynaptic terminals and synaptic vesicles
• during a 15-Hz stimulus train, mice exhibit a small increase in depression at later stages compared with similarly treated wild-type mice
• however, mice exhibit normal paired-pulse facilitation, post-tetanic potentiation, and short-term plasticity is normal
