immune system
• collagen induced arthritis is less severe than in controls
• incidence is about half that of controls and severity is reduced for mice that do develop arthritis
• administration of LPS causes an increase in incidence and severity but not to the degree of controls
• higher circulating levels of hyaluranic acid are noted in the knockout mice compared to controls after arthritis induction

skeleton
• collagen induced arthritis is less severe than in controls
• incidence is about half that of controls and severity is reduced for mice that do develop arthritis
• administration of LPS causes an increase in incidence and severity but not to the degree of controls
• higher circulating levels of hyaluranic acid are noted in the knockout mice compared to controls after arthritis induction

endocrine/exocrine glands
• 60-80% of pups die within 2 days of birth
• mammary glands undergo involution within 1-4 days postpartum
• only focal lobuloalveolar expansion of the mammary glands is observed two days after birth compared to engorged lobuloalveoli of controls
• numerous apoptotic cells are observed in mammary glands at 2 days postpartum

reproductive system
• postpartum involution of the uterus is accelerated in these mice
• 24-36 h postpartum, the size of uterus is reduced to about half that of wild-type animals
• postpartum uteri have thinner walls with epithelial cells displaying a more elongated, columnar morphology with elongated nuclei
• smooth muscle of the postpartnum uterus is disorganized compared to controls
• increased apoptosis is associated with this accelerated apoptosis

integument
• 60-80% of pups die within 2 days of birth
• mammary glands undergo involution within 1-4 days postpartum
• only focal lobuloalveolar expansion of the mammary glands is observed two days after birth compared to engorged lobuloalveoli of controls
• numerous apoptotic cells are observed in mammary glands at 2 days postpartum
