abnormal digit development ( J:11318 )

• thumb shows irregular growth on forepaw ranging from slight change in architecture to elongation of thumb by almost 100%

• when thumb is elongated to certain extent, digit 2 becomes bent and connected to thumb via soft tissue

• thumb phenotype is obvious at day 14 of development

• about 10% of forelimbs examined display an additional phalanx on digit 2

• bone fusion of thumb and digit 2 is never observed
