immune system
• 43% of B cells express human mu heavy chain and human kappa light chain
• 57% of B cells express human mu heavy chain and mouse lamda light chain
• no co-expression of human and mouse light chain is found
• the presence of the two transgenes overcomes the block in B cell development that occurs in Igh-Jtm1Jkbv Igk-Ctm1Jkbv double homozygotes
• mature B cells are found at a level 10% of that in wild-type mice
• human antibodies occur in the sera of mice at 10 micrograms per ml
• this concentration is several hundred fold higher than occurs in transgenic mice that do not have endogenous Ig heavy and light chains inactivated
