Cellular defects in the epididymides of the Inhbatm1Zuk/Inhbatm1Zuk mouse

reproductive system
• epididymis fails to develop the characteristic coiling in the epithelium
• however, testosterone production and action is normal
• the typical increase in proliferation of cells in the Wolffian duct epithelium as it transforms into the epididymis from E15.5 to E19.5 is absent in mutants

embryo
• Wolffian duct fails to elongate and coil, leaving a straight duct in the mesonephros
• the epithelial layer of the Wolffian duct becomes high columnar in shape compared to high cuboidal to low columnar in wild-type, and cell width decreases as the epithelial layer becomes crowded
• mesenchymal cells surrounding the duct are condensed and disorganized
