• affected mice are characterized by the appearance on one or both sides of supernumerary lower incisors located directly behind, or slightly medial to, the corresponding normal teeth
• usually they become deflected and are broken off with time, after which it may be difficult to say whether an extra tooth has ever been present
• supernumerary teeth usually erupt a few days later than the normal incisors
