• however, the cerebellum morphology and the fine structures of the parallel fibers-Purkinje cell synapses are normal
• the area covered by climbing fibers is increased compared to in wild-type mice and ectopic climbing fibers innervate at distal dendrites
• fewer Purkinje cells are innervated by a single climbing fiber (33% compared to 78% in wild-type mice) and the majority are innervated by one or two supernumerary climbing fibers in addition to the main climbing fiber
• paired-pulse ratio is higher than in wild-type mice at shorter interpulse intervals
• the rise and decay time of climbing fiber excitatory postsynaptic currents (EPSCs) is longer than in wild-type mice
• surplus climbing fiber EPSCs have rise times longer than 5 ms and decay times longer than 45 ms while all main climbing fiber EPSCs have rise times shorter than 5 ms and decay times shorter than 45 ms
• while some surplus climbing fibers display slower kinetics others display equivalent kinetics to the main climbing fiber EPSCs
• long term depression is impaired at the parallel fibers-Purkinje cell synapses
