nervous system
N
• no cerebral amyloid beta deposition is detected
• neurons in the brain, liver cells, intestinal epithelial cells, skeletal and heart muscle fibers, and adrenal gland contain detectable amounts of amyloid beta, and pancreatic acinar cells show highest levels
• all transgenic mice over 8 months of age show amyloid accumulation, particularly in the pancreas

endocrine/exocrine glands
• some pancreatic acinar cells show degeneration with vacuoles; these cells appear to have inclusion body-like deposits
• in cytoplasm of acinar cells, vacuoles contain numerous nonbranching amyloid fibrils; such fibrils are also observed in large amounts in interstitial macrophages
• vacuoles also contain membranous debris and small vesicles

digestive/alimentary system
• some pancreatic acinar cells show degeneration with vacuoles; these cells appear to have inclusion body-like deposits
• in cytoplasm of acinar cells, vacuoles contain numerous nonbranching amyloid fibrils; such fibrils are also observed in large amounts in interstitial macrophages
• vacuoles also contain membranous debris and small vesicles

immune system
• in plasma, levels of Abeta 1-40 and Abeta 1-42 are 30-fold higher than in wild-type plasma

homeostasis/metabolism
• neurons in the brain, liver cells, intestinal epithelial cells, skeletal and heart muscle fibers, and adrenal gland contain detectable amounts of amyloid beta, and pancreatic acinar cells show highest levels
• all transgenic mice over 8 months of age show amyloid accumulation, particularly in the pancreas
• in plasma, levels of Abeta 1-40 and Abeta 1-42 are 30-fold higher than in wild-type plasma
