• after 24 hour starvation autophagic activity was significantly decreased in the diaphragm muscle compared to wild-type control
• mice are viable and fertile otherwise indicating that they are able to develop the autophagic response required during the early neonatal period
• a reduced autophagic degradation in adult fibroblast in culture under starvation conditions

• after prolonged starvation, the locomotor activity of mutant mice was significantly reduced
