• the hair coat of mice homozygous for this mutation, like that of wild-type and heterozygous mutant mice, begins to appear when the mice are about six days old
• the perinasal region of homozygous mice lacks hair and thus appears reddish and presents the illusion of being elongated
• homozygous mutant mice lack hair on the ventrum
• the hair coat is sparse on the dorsum and sides of homozygous mutant mice
• homozygous mutant mice are born without vibrissae, which do not develop until the pups are about one month old
