• all affected animals show a visible nuclear opacity

• Background Sensitivity: when heterozygous animals are derived from crosses to C3H/HeH mice, 53% of animals are affected by cataracts, showing mild diffuse opacities in the lens nucleus; when homozygous mutants are crossed to C3H/HeH mice, essentially all (98.2%) mice show the mild phenotype
