• adult cardiomyocytes exhibit abnormal patterns of multinucleation, with an increase in the number of nuclei

• tritiated thymidine incorporation analysis shows sustained cardiomyocyte DNA synthesis in adults (J:40920)
• myocardial injury (isoproterenol-induced hypertrophy and cautery damage) reduces the ventricular cardiomyocyte DNA synthesis that is observed in mutants (J:104622)
