homeostasis/metabolism
• in anesthetized mice total corticosterone levels are reduced by 50% but the free fraction is increased by 10-fold
• similar to anesthetized mice, in non-anesthetized mice total corticosterone levels are reduced (9.6 +/- 2.4 ng/ml compared to 55.5 +/- 9.43 in wild-type mice) and free levels are increased (2.98+/-0.9ng/ml compared to 0.41+/-0.24ng/ml in wild-type mice)
• despite the increase in corticosterone levels, no differences are detected in serum or urine electrolyte, creatinine, glucose, insulin, or leptin levels
• despite the increase in free corticosterone levels, a 300% increase in ACTH levels is seen (599.3+/-73.7pg/ml versus 238+/-62.3pg/ml in wild-type mice)
• injection of endotoxin leads to an increase in IL-1b levels in the lung
• injection of endotoxin leads to an increase in serum granulocyte colony-stimulating factor levels

immune system
• injection of endotoxin leads to an increase in IL-1b levels in the lung
• injection of endotoxin leads to an increase in serum granulocyte colony-stimulating factor levels
• injection of endotoxin leads to increased susceptibility to acute septic shock with 5 of 5 mice dying within the first 48 hours where as only 2 of 5 control mice had died
• injection of endotoxin also leads to an increase in granulocyte colony-stimulating factor and IL-1b levels and mononuclear cell infiltrate in the lung

behavior/neurological

liver/biliary system
N
• despite the changes in corticosterone levels, liver morphology appears normal at E15.5

renal/urinary system
N
• despite the changes in corticosterone levels, kidney morphology appears normal at E15.5
