Enamel architecture changes in Amelxtm1Msnd/Amelxtm1Msnd and Amelxtm2Msnd/Amelxtm2Msnd mice

craniofacial
• accelerated wear
• amelogenin nanospheres are larger than in wild-type mice
• enamel crystallites have irregular size and organization
• Tomes' processes are shorter and alpha 6 integrin expression is distributed at multiple foci in the secretory end piece
• Tomes' processes are shorter
• arrangement and size of rods are abnormal
• weaving of the matrix is reduced
• reduced thickness and more easily abraded
• molars show accelerated wear
• enamel is more prone to fracture and more easily abraded with mastication
• incisors are fragile with incisal edge fractures during chewing
