cardiovascular system
• cardiomyocytes respond to hypoxia with shortening of action membrane potential and are more resistant to hypoxia than controls, with 90.9% of cells surviving the 60-min long hypoxia compared to only 23.5% of control cells
• hearts acquire resistance to ischemia-reperfusion injury
• size of myocardial infarction is dramatically smaller (5.3% of the area at risk zone compared to 21.2% in wild-type)
