immune system
• there is a decreased proportion of B cells in the spleens compared to controls
• a similarly small but significant decrease in percentage of single positive CD4 thymocytes is observed
• in the spleen there is a lower percentage of CD4+ T cells that is more evident than in the thymus
• in the spleens there is an increase in T cell number
• a small but significant increase in percentage of single-positive CD8 thymocytes is seen compared to controls
• in the spleen there is a higher percentage of CD8+ T cells that is more evident than in the thymus
• in peripheral lymph nodes, there is a significant lymphocyte expansion with lymph node cells increased >6-fold over littermate controls
• Background Sensitivity: on a B6 congenic background peripheral lymphocyte proliferation is lower compared to that on a (BALB/c x C57BL/6)F1 background
• expression of the Cd86 transgene results in hyperplasia of peripheral lymphoid organs
• there is extensive lymphoid infiltration of other organs including the lungs
