• myocyte hypertrophy; the long axis is increased 1.3-fold, the short axis is increased 1.2-fold, the cell area is increased 1.5-fold, and the cell volume is increased 1.9-fold
• the heart weight/body weight ratio is increased 2.2-fold at 2 and 14 weeks of age
• significant increase in wall thickness of both the anterior and posterior left ventricular walls at 2 and 14 weeks of age
• at 14 weeks of age, but not at 2 weeks, the left ventricular (LV) systolic diameter is increased, the LV diastolic diameter is minimally increased, and fractional shortening is decreased to 37%
