• enteric ganglion cells are absent from the stomach and small and large bowel of homozygotes

• no enteric neurons are found in the foregut, midgut or hindgut

renal/urinary system
|
• homozygotes demonstrate agenesis of the kidneys and lack both kidneys

• homozygous newborns have empty bladders
