mortality/aging
• mice subjected to chronic pressure overload (by ascending aortic constriction) exhibit improved survival and do not develop heart failure as do wild-type

cardiovascular system
• augmented glucose uptake results in a 5-fold increase in cardiac glycogen
• uptake rate of a glucose analog is increased about 40-fold in isolated hearts during insulin-free perfusion and remains more than 2-fold higher than wild-type during insulin stimulation, however blood glucose levels are unaltered
• greater rate of glucose uptake persists in hearts after pressure overload by ascending aortic constriction
• mice subjected to chronic pressure overload exhibit improved survival and do not develop heart failure as do wild-type
• lactate production is elevated in isolated perfused hearts at baseline and increases additionally at peak work induced by increasing left ventricle volume
