• mice show decreased hypertrophy in the aorta in response to prolonged angiotensin II application
• in response to angiotensin II, there is decrease extracellular matrix protein accumulation in mutants and matrix proteins remain as fine lining along the elastic fibers rather than being found in abundant patches in the aortic media as in wild-type mice
• basal systolic blood pressure is slightly but significantly decreased (108+/-15mm Hg vs. 116+/-12mm Hg in wild-type, p=0.03) compared to wild-type
• in response to angiotensin II, hemizygous males showed an initial increase in systolic blood pressure at day 3 but return to basal levels by day 6, unlike wild-type mice in which sytolic blood pressure remains elevated
• null male mice display lower levels of reactive oxygen species in the aortic media in response to angiotensin II-induced oxidative stress, compared to wild-type mice

• angiotensin II induces a 4-fold increase in NOX2 in mutants compared with wild-type
