immune system
• the number of eosinophils in the peripheral blood is reduced; however, the number of other peripheral blood cells, bone marrow, spleen, and peritoneal cells are all normal
• no eosinophilia is seen in response to infection with the nematode, N brasiliensis; however, serum IgE levels are increased after infection
• peribronchovascular lymphocytic infiltration
• no eosinophilia or pulmonary granulomatous lesions are seen 14 days after infection with the nematode, N brasiliensis; however severe lung edema and diffuse infiltration of mononuclear cells and neutrophils are seen and 21 days after infection lung inflammation persists

respiratory system
• peribronchovascular lymphocytic infiltration
• a focal but scattered intraalveolar proteinacious substance is seen associated with expanded foamy pulmonary alveolar macrophages

hematopoietic system
• no colonies are formed in vitro in the presence of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor or IL-5
