nervous system
• the intermediate lobe is enlarged; however the anterior lobe is normal
• in mutant neurons from the substantia nigra compacta 100 um dopamine had no effect on membrane potentials unlike in wild-type neurons where dopamine inhibited spontaneous firing

pigmentation
• agouti coat color is darker with the back darker than other regions of the body

endocrine/exocrine glands
• the intermediate lobe is enlarged; however the anterior lobe is normal

homeostasis/metabolism
• alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone levels are elevated about 15-fold compared to wild-type mice
• levels of pro-opiomelanocortin are increased in the pituitary; however, levels of prolactin are normal

integument
• agouti coat color is darker with the back darker than other regions of the body
