• homozygotes require a 50-fold lower concentration of nicotine to induce conditioned place preference, hyperactivity, hypothermia, and to develop a tolerance to induced-hypothermia

• a similar increase in sensitivity to nicotine is seen in dopaminergic neurons and in ventral midbrain neurons
