• following exposure to ionizing radiation the 50% survival time for homozygotes is greater than 30 days compared to 12 days for wild-type mice
• no atrophy of the white pulp of the spleen or decrease in lymphocyte numbers is seen following exposure to ionizing radiation in homozygotes unlike in wild-type mic

cellular
• neurons in the external germinal layer of the cerebellum and the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus and double positive thymocytes in homozygotes are resistant to ionizing radiation induced apoptosis compared to the same cell types in wild-type mice
• following exposure to ionizing radiation mouse embryonic fibroblasts maintenance of G1 arrest beyond 2 hours is impaired compared to wild-type mice
