reproductive system
• defects seen in fetal ovaries at E15
• problems in early stages of meiosis I
• male germ cells lack double strand breaks and are defective recombination and synapsis
• preleptotene pairing is impaired
• transgene expression of Spo11alpha does not rescue preleptotene pairing
• meiosis in spermatocytes normal through leptotene stage
• meiosis arrested at zygotene stage
• little or no synapsis (about 5-10% of nuclei)
• synapsis that does occur is between nonhomologous chromosomes
• lack of Rad51 and Dmc1 foci
• no spermatocytes reach pachytene stage
• many tubules are barren
• about 20% of tubules with clusters of apoptotic cells

endocrine/exocrine glands
