Kltm1Yin mutation (2 available); any Kl mutation (53 available)
phenotype observed in females
phenotype observed in males
N normal phenotype
mortality/aging
• average life span of 77 days
• mice fed a vitamin D deficient diet survived past 15 weeks of age

adipose tissue

growth/size/body
• mice fed a vitamin D deficient diet reached normal weight

homeostasis/metabolism
• ectopic calcification observed in the kidney, aorta, stomach, gut, lung, and choroid plexus
• serum calcium levels were normal in mice on vitamin D deficient diet and no ectopic calcification was observed
• a calcium deficient diet rescuedt the calcification phenotype, but not the body weight phenotype
• though elevated in mice fed a normal diet, serum phosphorous levels were normal in mice on vitamin D deficient diet
• a phosphorous deficient diet did not rescue either the calcifcation or body weight phenotypes
• marked increase in serum levels of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25-(OH)2D)
• a vitamin D deficient diet rescued most phenotypes

skeleton
• abnormal calcification
• normal calcification observed in mice on a vitamin D deficient diet
• reduced bone density in the diaphysis
• normal bone density observed in mice on a vitamin D deficient diet
