• mice are more sensitive to the acute locomotor activating effects of cocaine and show enhanced reward responses to cocaine
• injection of kaniate resulted in partial or no seizures in homozygous mice while wild-type mice exhibited severe systemic seizures
• homozygous mice exhibited impaired associative learning ability compared to wild-type; mice can exhibit learning at higher doses of an aversive stimulus or with more salient flavor stimuli

• mutant animals weighed approximately 14% less than littermates
