N normal phenotype
reproductive system
• as early as E6, deciduae in mutant mothers are abnormally small, displaying reduced BrdU incorporation in the peripheral antimesometrial decidual zone and in the mesometrial decidua
• however, the decidual defects are much milder relative to those observed in Il11ra1tm1Gos mice which expresses the mutant protein at lower levels
• upon mating of homozygous mutant females with wild-type males, only 75% of implantation sites examined on E11/E12 and E16/E17 appear normal with viable, healthy embryos
• the remaining implantation sites (25%) appear small and hemorrhagic, and embryos are fully resorbed on E11
• pregnant female homozygotes display loss of embryos during postimplantation development before E11
• all homozygous test mated females give rise to litters; however, litter size is reduced

embryo
• embryos developing in homozygous mothers exhibit abnormal chorioallantoic placentas; however, the mutant phenotype is much milder relative to that observed in Il11ra1tm1Gos mice which expresses the mutant protein at lower levels
• as early as E6, deciduae in mutant mothers are abnormally small, displaying reduced BrdU incorporation in the peripheral antimesometrial decidual zone and in the mesometrial decidua
• however, the decidual defects are much milder relative to those observed in Il11ra1tm1Gos mice which expresses the mutant protein at lower levels

cellular
• intercrosses of heterozygotes give rise to viable offspring at the expected Mendelian ratios, with homozygotes appearing phenotypically normal
• however, embryos in homozygous mothers develop abnormal chorioallantoic placentas resulting in significant embryonic retardation and lethality on E11
