• the percentage of double negative thymocytes bearing Tcr-beta chains is doubled
• an unusual double negative T cell population is found in the lymph nodes of these mice
• single positive CD8+ T cell numbers are increased in the thymus and lymph nodes
• CD4+ T cells that express high levels of GFP have the ability to differentiate into CD8+ T cells in vitro
• CD4+ T cells that express high levels of GFP have the ability to differentiate into CD8+,or CD4+CD8+, or CD4-CD8- T cells when transferred into lymphocyte deficient hosts
• single positive CD4+ T cell numbers are decreased in both in the thymus and lymph nodes
• T-helper cells produce much less IL-4, have increased expression of IFN-gamma, and fail to express CD154 upon stimulation suggesting CD4 T cells from these mice have characteristics similar to CD8 T cells
